Our Platform

The mission of the San Juan County Democratic Party is to support strategies, opportunities, and access for all San Juan County residents to the rights and resources of rural Utah life and encouraging the protection of public lands for generations to come.

  • Equal Opportunity and Access in a Diverse County

San Juan County (SJC) is the largest county in the State of Utah. The population is comprised of people of diverse cultures who reside in only a few small towns and on two Native American Reservations. SJC Dems support the idea that all residents of the county should be afforded equal access to the same qualities and services of life including:

    Economic security

Health care and safe living conditions

    Telecommunications

    Education

    Government services, meetings, and representation

    Road maintenance and transportation services

Access to clean air, water, and energy

  • Community Sustainability

The SJC Dems believe that the county can demonstrate balance in the plans for sustainable growth while helping maintain the county’s traditional characteristics. The county should craft planning and economic development policies that encourage a balance between extractive industries, education and health services, community services, as well as business designed to support tourism as more people come to visit and to live and work in SJC.

  • Voting Rights

The vast landscape of SJC presents a constraint for access to voting in federal, state, local, and Navajo Nation elections. The SJC Dems are committed to projects and strategies that will allow everyone voting access including:

    Proper addressing of each residence

    Updated maps of voting districts

    Increased registration of all residents

Access to mail-in, early voting, and in-person voting sites

    Translation services

  • Public Lands

SJC is comprised of over 82% public land. With that said, the SJC Dems encourage local and state leaders to support the conservation, preservation, and access to public lands throughout the county and the restoration of Bears Ears to its 2016 boundaries or to the size in the original coalition request. We believe the monument will contribute to the economic strength of San Juan County by growing job opportunities.
